Expetel Commuications Provides Savings to Louisiana Residents
August 22, 2002
JACKSON - eXpeTel Communications, a regional competitive local telephone company, announced today that it has been offering its local and long distance program to residents in Shreveport, Monroe and Alexandria, Louisiana and will open its offering in the New Orleans area in the upcoming weeks.
"We are very pleased with the positive and welcoming response from the people of the state of Louisiana," said Ted Parsons, executive vice president of eXpeTel. "It is very rewarding when the public understands that there is a true alternative to the incumbent monopoly regional bell operating companies, and then takes advantage of the savings associated through competition," Parsons continued.
eXpeTel provides low cost local and long distance telephone services to businesses and residential consumers throughout the southeastern United States. The company operates through an interconnection agreement with BellSouth, its primary competitor, and piggybacks its service on the Bell company's lines. The arrangement is allowed because of changes six years ago in federal telecommunications laws to promote competition in the local telephone service markets.
Competition in the local telephone service market was the focus of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, and eXpeTel states that competition has been slow to come in the local telephone service markets, especially in the residential, consumer markets. Parsons states that early entrants in the competitive local exchange markets spent billions of dollars building their own networks and focused primarily on business customers in the large metropolitan cities across the country. "Somehow the consumer was left behind and continues to pay high prices for the telephone services that they need," Parsons said.
According to Wade Spooner eXpeTel's President and CEO, the switch to eXpeTel is simple and easy. When a Bell customer switches their local telephone service to eXpeTel, the change is internal within the Bell system. "A records-change takes place internally with the Bell company and the consumer should not see any disruption of service. That's why this program is so great for the consumer," Spooner added.
eXpeTel is continuing with its expansion efforts throughout
the southeastern United States and says it should receive
approval in the remaining states of North Carolina, South
Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee by year-end 2002. eXpeTel
states that they are on a mission to provide as many residential
consumers with the savings that they deserve and have
the right to expect, without hindering quality and network
reliability that they are accustomed to. If you have interest
