How to upload your page to the web server

DOWNLOADING WS/FTP

WS/FTP is a program that will allow you to transfer files back and forth from your computer to the web server. You can download it by CLICKING HERE. Make sure you save it as a file and remember where you put it. Since the file is a 'zip' file, you will need to 'unzip' it in order to install it. You will need to download Winzip if you don't already have it on your computer. You can download the file from http://www.winzip.com.

Once you have unzipped the file, you should have a file called "install.exe" in the same directory where you saved the zip file. Click start, then Run, then browse to the location of the "install.exe" file. Follow the instructions to install WS/FTP.

CONFIGURING WS/FTP

Open your FTP program. A window entitled "Session Profile" should open. Type the following in the Session Profile window:
  • Profile Name: Type "xfone.com Web Server" in the blank

  • Host Name: Type "exit3.i-55.com" in the blank. * Note - Commercial customers will need to use exit2.i-55.com as the Host Name

  • Host Type: leave it as "Automatic detect."

  • User ID: This needs to be the login name for the web server. (If you do not have a login for the web server, please fill out the REQUEST FORM or call our office. This login is not the same login that you use to log onto the Internet.)

  • Password: Use the password for your web server login account.

  • Account: leave blank.

  • Make sure to Check the Save Password and Auto Save Config boxes, then click OK.
USING WS/FTP

On the left hand side of the WS-FTP window, you'll see files on your own computer, and in the right hand side window, you'll see files on the web server. Towards the middle bottom of the FTP window, you'll see 3 boxes that say "ASCII," "Binary," and "Auto." Web pages (.html or .htm) and cgi programs (.cgi, .pl) should have the "Ascii" box clicked before you transfer files. Other kinds of files should have the "Binary" box clicked before you send them.

To send a file, just click on the filename in the left hand window, then click on the arrow that points to the right. Congratulations and Happy FTPing :)
